About NBICT LAB

Practical Skills. Stronger Research. Greater Opportunities.

North Bengal Information & Communication Technology Laboratory (NBICT LAB) is a Bangladesh-based information and communication technology training, services, and research-support organization dedicated to making practical digital skills accessible, understandable, and useful. Founded in Dinajpur on 8 April 2018 by Sadhan Verma, NBICT LAB helps learners, educators, researchers, and professionals develop the confidence to use technology in their academic, professional, and everyday lives.

Our work is guided by a simple belief: technology becomes meaningful when people can use it to solve real problems. That is why we emphasize hands-on learning, clear instruction, relevant projects, and ongoing guidance. Whether someone is opening Microsoft Excel for the first time, analyzing research data, building a machine learning model, or preparing a map in QGIS, we aim to turn complex topics into practical skills.

Our guiding message is “একটাই লক্ষ্য, হতে হবে দক্ষ” — “One Goal: Become Skilled.”

Our Story: From a Campus Initiative to NBICT LAB

The story of NBICT LAB began with a gap between formal education and access to practical ICT training.

While studying biological science at Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU) in Dinajpur, Sadhan Verma recognized that many students needed accessible opportunities to learn essential computer applications and technology-related skills. He began teaching himself, then sharing what he learned with friends, juniors, seniors, and other members of the university community.

In 2017, that effort took a more organized form through the BCE ICT Training Program, an initiative to support ICT skill development among students and employees at HSTU. Encouraged by the need for practical, learner-focused training, Sadhan Verma founded the North Bengal Information & Communication Technology Laboratory (NBICT LAB) on 8 April 2018.

What started as a local commitment to skill development has grown into a platform for ICT education, data analysis, data science, machine learning, GIS and remote sensing training, and research-related technical support. Although NBICT LAB is rooted in Dinajpur, its virtual learning activities help it connect with learners beyond the local community.

Our Mission

Our mission is to make high-quality, practical ICT and research-oriented training more accessible and affordable, particularly for people who may not come from a computer science or technical background.

We strive to:

  • Help learners progress from foundational knowledge to independent practical work.

  • Bridge the gap between theoretical education and workplace or research applications.

  • Make statistical analysis, programming, geospatial technologies, and emerging digital tools easier to learn.

  • Support researchers in using appropriate, transparent, and reproducible analytical methods.

  • Encourage curiosity, lifelong learning, professional confidence, and responsible use of technology.

Our Vision

We envision a future in which students, teachers, researchers, and working professionals—regardless of their academic discipline or location—can confidently use modern technology to learn, conduct research, solve problems, and create opportunities.

We aspire to build NBICT LAB into a trusted learning and research-support community recognized for practical teaching, accessible knowledge, and meaningful learner progress.

What We Do

1. ICT and Computer Skills Training

Strong digital skills begin with the fundamentals. We provide training in Microsoft Office Applications and Computer Basics, including practical use of tools such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. These skills support academic work, office productivity, communication, and everyday professional tasks.

Our approach is especially suitable for beginners who want patient, structured instruction and repeated practice.

2. Statistical Data Analysis and Research Methods

We help students, teachers, and researchers develop skills in handling, analyzing, interpreting, and presenting data. Training topics include statistical data analysis using IBM SPSS Statistics, Stata, R, and Python, with emphasis on selecting suitable methods, checking assumptions, interpreting results, and communicating findings clearly.

The goal is not simply to run a command or produce a table. It is to help learners understand what the analysis means, why a method is appropriate, and how the results can inform a sound conclusion.

3. Data Science, Programming, and Machine Learning

Through courses in Python for Data Science and Machine Learning and R for Data Science and Machine Learning, NBICT LAB introduces learners to programming, data preparation, exploratory data analysis, visualization, statistical modeling, predictive analytics, and machine learning workflows.

We emphasize applied examples and project-based practice so that learners can move beyond memorizing code and begin developing analytical solutions to real-world questions.

4. GIS, Remote Sensing, and Geospatial Analysis

Location-based data plays an important role in agriculture, the environment, public health, urban planning, disaster management, and many other fields. NBICT LAB offers practical training in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing, including the use of QGIS, ArcGIS Pro, and Google Earth Engine.

Depending on the course, learners can explore spatial data management, digital mapping, satellite imagery, geospatial analysis, and the preparation of maps and outputs for research and professional use.

5. Research and Data Analysis Support

NBICT LAB also provides data analytical consultancy and research-related technical support. We aim to assist researchers with activities such as preparing datasets, understanding analytical workflows, working with statistical or geospatial software, interpreting outputs, and producing clear visualizations.

Our emphasis is on methodological understanding, transparent analysis, and responsible research practice. We encourage researchers to remain actively involved in decisions about their data, methods, and conclusions.

How We Teach

We believe learners gain confidence by doing. Our teaching combines clear explanations with guided demonstrations and opportunities to practice independently.

Depending on the program, NBICT LAB provides:

  • Hands-on online workshops and physical training sessions that connect explanations with practical tasks.

  • Pre-recorded courses and class recordings to support revision and self-paced learning.

  • Structured course materials that help learners follow concepts in a logical order.

  • Practice exercises, assignments, quizzes, and project-based activities to reinforce learning.

  • Instructor guidance and community interaction so learners can ask questions and learn from one another.

  • Course-completion certificates, where offered, subject to the applicable course requirements and verification process.

We make extensive use of Bangla-language instruction to help learners grasp technical subjects without unnecessary language barriers, while introducing the English terminology commonly used in software, research, and professional settings.

Course formats, access periods, support arrangements, and assessment requirements vary by program; details are provided on individual course pages.

Who We Serve

NBICT LAB welcomes people at different stages of their learning and professional journeys, including:
